SERVICE DELIVERY

Te Whare Whakaruruhau o Raumanuka provides transitional housing, located at 28A – 28E Treadwell Street and 24 and 26 Rata Street in Naenae, for up to 22 tāne Māori for up to 18 months.

A robust selection process ensures that the tane selected to become residents are committed and motivated to positively rebuilding their lives and make meaningful contributions to their whānau and community. Te Whare Whakaruruhau o Raumānuka are for tāne of Māori decent.

Additional to transitional housing, tāne recieve 24/7 onsite wrap-around and navigational support from kaupapa Māori health, social, education, employment and cultural services. Our kaimahi work with Community Probations and other Community Corrections staff, local social service providers, Work and Income and other agencies.

We support tāne to:

  • Pursue further training and education

  • Address health needs

  • Develop life skills such as parenting, budgeting, managing a household and getting a drivers licence

  • Build connections with whānau and the wider community

  • Strengthen connections to whakapapa and Te Ao Māori

  • Find meaningful and long-term employment.

We have clear tikanga (health and safety) and kawa (rules and regulations) that guide the services we deliver and how tāne live in the whare. Our tikanga and kawa will be based on firm but fair expectations of our service and tāne.

Before Release

  • Build trusted relationships with residents to understand their life and whānau circumstances

  • Ensure support is provided while tane are in corrections facilities to address past trauma

  • Understand their positive aspirations and motivations to make transformational change

  • Introduce the tikanga and kawa of our service to ensure commitment and motivation.

On Release

  • Create an environment that is future focused and empowering transformational change

  • Provide ongoing support that continues to address past trauma

  • Support to reconnect with whānau 

  • Reinforce the tikanga and kawa of our kaupapa as a powerful tool to achieve rangatiratanga 

  • Remove obstacles that make it difficult to form positive reconnections with the community.

In Housing

  • Provide housing, safety and security

  • Provide access to relevant education and employment support that will meet the long term needs of them and their whānau

  • Strengthen whānau and whakapapa connections

  • Reaffirm the tikanga and kawa of our kaupapa and how it can compliment tino rangatiratanga within the community.

Long-Term

  • Provide tāne Māori with the necessary skills to successfully navigate their way and be rangatira for their whānau, hapū and iwi

  • Support tāne Māori and their whānau to confidently leading independent, healthy, safe and resilient lives

  • Offer long term support to tāne Māori and their whānau should they wish to reengage with our services in the future.
