• How many residents will live at each property?

    The service will provide twenty beds operating from three properties in Naenae:

    • 28A-28E Treadwell Street – up to 10 residents

    • 24 and 26 Rata Street – up to 12 residents including office space and programs whare.

    Each property will have more than one residential building.

    Each resident will have their own bedroom. There will only be one resident per bedroom and sharing bedrooms will be prohibited. The properties operate CCTV’s and electronic security to provide the community with reassurance that security measures are in place. The CCTV’s will be inwards facing towards the property.

  • Why does the service operate from three properties?

    These are brand new whare and we want the residents to live in a welcoming, mana-enhancing environment.

  • Will the different properties provide different services?

    No. All three properties will be part of the same service, Te Whare Whakaruruhau o Raumanuka.

  • Who owns the properties?

    Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities purchased 28A-28E Treadwell Street, 24 and 26 Rata Street on behalf of Corrections. They will be leased by Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira and Te Rūnanganui o Te Ati Awa.

  • What will the properties look like?

    To ensure the whare are mana-enhancing for residents and the local community, the whare will look like normal homes.

    While there are operating outdoor CCTV cameras, these will look the same as any other outdoor security camera designed for residential homes.

  • Why did we choose these properties?

    We reviewed several property options and decided that 28A-28E Treadwell Street, 24 and 26 Rata Street, Naenae were the best properties to establish the service. Some of the factors that influenced our decision were that they:

    • Offer high-quality, well-built residential accommodation that aligns with the healthy homes standards

    • Have good access to public transport for residents to access social services, employment, training and education.

  • Will residents have access to vehicles?

    Te Whare Whakaruruhau o Raumanuka will provide residents with access to transportation as/if required.
